Clubs and societies is a Social department DOMICILED IN THE Dean of Students office. It is very important helping the college students interact and carry out their activities effectively in the college.

Guidance & Counseling

Guidance and counseling activities are carried out through the guidance and counseling department under Dean of students’ office. The following programs are executed within mentorship programs.

  • Guiding and counseling
  • Training of peer counselors or mentors
  • Identifying and inviting guest speakers on varied topics such:
    • Legal matters
    • Academics
    • Drug and substance abuse
    • Health issues
  • Organizing community health week where the following activities are carried out:
  1. Cancer (Cervical) screening
  2. HIV counseling and testing

 

  • Treatment of both communicable and non-communicable diseases
  1. Blood donation
  2. Health and physical fitness activities
  3. Team building activities

 

  • Blood sugar and pressure check up
  • Talks on varied topics in line with human health
  • Arranging fortnight meetings with the peer mentors to review the effectiveness of the mentorship skills.

Mentorship

This department involves faith based organizations and other social welfares. Societies here include Christian Union (CU), Young Christian Societies (YCS), Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) and Islamic Association (IA). This department of society is mainly concerned with spiritual buildup of the faiths of the students.

The department of clubs and societies is organized by the club officials and society organizers. The staff members are also involved as the patrons.

The student’s body in clubs and societies normally organize for outings to different institutions and field tours for example YCS, SDA and CU normally visit other institutions for services to enhance collaborations and socializations.

In Migori Teachers College the clubs and societies normally meet on Thursdays so that they can organize themselves, solve problems experienced by the members in their societies and clubs.

Entertainment in the college fall under the docket of clubs. Entertainment deals with refreshments of brains and body to break the boredom after a long day academic work. Entertainment assists the learners to release the energies which could result into strikes, drugs and substance abuse and all sorts of idleness.
