ABOUT MIGORI TEACHERS TRAINING COLLEGE

The college admitted its first cohort of P1 students in 1983. They were 258: 114 male and 144 female. The first Principal of the college was Mr. Japheth Makau Wambua (1982 – 1984) while the Deputy Principal was Mr. Albert Ogut (1982 – 1989). The first Chairman – Board of Management was Amb. Leo P. Odero (1983 – 2008). The first Chairman of the Student Representative Council was Mr. Alfred Gretha (1983 – 1985).

The college is situated in Migori Town, Migori County along Kisii – Isebania road. Due to its location, the college hosts many forums and social activities hence contributing to the social and economic development of Migori County and beyond.

The college admits students from all parts of Kenya. Since its inception in 1982, the college has produced thousands of qualified teachers for primary schools. Initially, the mandate of the college was to train P1 teachers for primary schools. Due to changes in education policy, the college is currently training Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and qualified P1 certificate holders who have come to upgrade to Diploma. It is also a center for training teachers in Special Needs Education managed by the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).
